Smokin Joe's BBQ

While staying in Wears Valley, TN we make a ride to Smokin Joe’s BBQ in Townsend. We had decided to spend nine days there to celebrate our anniversary and to attend the Jeep Invasion in Pigeon Forge. Our cabin was right in between Pigeon Forge and Townsend. Also on our bucket list for out there was a visit to Cades Cove Jeep Outpost. It’s a must visit for any Jeeper. Check them out at https://www.facebook.com/jeepthecove/  While we were there they recommended Smokin Joe’s BBQ which was right down the road. Sounds great, so off we went. I must say that we visit the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina often and we love it there. However, the Smokies in Tennessee has got to be one of the most beautiful areas we’ve spent time visiting. This was just an awesome area and if you love natural scenery and nature, you really need to visit here someday.

The Restaurant and Staff at Smokin Joe’s BBQ:

Sliced Brisket with Slaw and Corn Nuggets.

Well like I said Smokin Joe’s BBQ was recommended to us to check out. They’re located right on the main highway, we had no problem finding them. The restaurant looked nice on the outside so in we went. Inside was nice too. It looked like they weren’t using the whole dining room, probably like other places due to a shortage of employees. But everything was clean and we were greeted by a very friendly young lady who then seated us. Our waitress was also really nice.

Everyone we saw was friendly and working steadily to keep things moving. Fortunately for us they were not very busy. This was a nicely decorated with country/mountain decorations which made us feel very comfortable. There were also quite a few trophies on display. We read that the owner was originally from Lugoff, SC. That was pretty cool since I have family from there too. It’s a small world.

Our Choices at Smokin Joe’s BBQ:

Tammy ordered the Sliced Brisket with Corn Nuggets and Slaw. She loved the corn nuggets. I thought they were good, they’re just not my thing. They do have a good creamy slaw and I can’t forget those wonderful Hush Puppies.

Now take a look at that brisket. You can see the smoke ring. She got the lean brisket so it was just a little dry but the flavor was outstanding. Tammy said this brisket had some of the best flavor she’s had since the pandemic. It really was good.

I had Chopped Pork with TN BBQ Beans and Fries. The fries were good. They weren’t fresh cut but had a slight coating on them making them a little better than ordinary fries. The TN BBQ beans were luscious. They had 3 different beans and a great sauce. I loved them.

As with the brisket you can see the smoke ring on the pork also. It had a wonderful smoke flavor. They serve it with sauce on the side but I didn’t use it. This pork didn’t need it. So we both enjoyed our meals very much.

Final Thoughts on Smokin Joe’s BBQ:

Smokin Joe’s BBQ turned out to be a great stop while we were out there. We actually made a second trip there before we left. The second time was just as good as the first so we were very pleased. We’ll definitely have to stop back in next time we’re in the area. So even if you’re in Pigeon Forge they’re not too far away. Check them out. I’d like to see them use their Facebook page more to draw people in.
