Butts On The Creek BBQ

Today we’re going back into North Carolina to visit Butts On The Creek BBQ. They’re in Maggie Valley right on Highway 19. Coming in from Interstate 40 they’d be on your right, from Cherokee they’re on your left. They are a little hidden down a small hillside but the sign is right there on the highway. So they’re not hard to find.

Before I get into the restaurant let me tell you about another place in Maggie Valley you should check out when visiting the area. Mountain Mike’s Whetstone Woodworks. They are also on Highway 19 and easy to find. If you’ve ever seen anyone carve wood with a chainsaw, Mike is a master of the craft. He’s also a wonderful and humble man. He has many different carvings for sale in his shop with a wide price range. Something for everyone there. Check out his Facebook page and you’ll see. https://www.facebook.com/maggievalleycarving/

Now let’s move along.

The Restaurant and Staff:

Dinning Room View at Butts On The Creek BBQ.

Butts On The Creek BBQ has a very nice restaurant. The seating is on an enclosed deck on the back side of the building. And as the name suggests, you’ll be overlooking a creek while you eat. We arrived shortly before sunset and it was beautiful. It turns out that this is a brother-sister establishment. The brother runs the restaurant and the sister runs a gift shop. They both share the building. The gift shop has glass art work, tee-shirts and other items for sale.

Our waitress, Windy, was great. She had a wonderful personality. She also kept good tabs on us to be sure everything was going well. We really enjoyed our time talking with her. Windy made us feel right at home and very comfortable.

Our Choices at Butts On The Creek BBQ:

Burnt Ends with Mac & Cheese and Squash Casserole.

Tammy had Burnt Ends tonight with Squash Casserole and Mac & Cheese. The mac & cheese was good. They make it with shells instead of traditional macaroni. I think I’d like a little more cheese but it was good. The squash casserole was really good. It had a crunchy topping. If you like squash this side is a winner.

The burnt ends were awesome. Windy said they usually prepare them with their spicy sauce but you can request a different sauce to be used. Tammy wanted to go with their mustard sauce on hers but I didn’t taste mustard. I think they used their regular sauce. Whatever they used, the burnt ends were awesome.

I chose a 3 Meat Platter with Pulled Pork, Brisket and Ribs. I had their Baked Beans and Fried Okra for sides. The beans were good. They have some nice seasoning and a really good flavor. The okra was also

good. They don’t do any special seasoning on them, just straight up fried okra. They did bring Tammy some type of dipping sauce for something. Not sure but it may have been for the burnt ends. I think they might use a little horse radish in the mixture. Whatever it was for, it made a great dip for the okra.

Butts On The Creek BBQ serves their brisket chopped. Though I prefer sliced, it did have a good flavor. The pork was also chopped. It had even more smoke flavor than the brisket. The pork also had some nice pieces of bark mixed in. I really enjoyed the pork. And the ribs, they were outstanding. From the smoke flavor to the charred outside they were wonderful. Yes, tonight the ribs were my favorite even though all of it was wonderful.

And Dessert:

Fresh Peach Cobbler with Ice Cream.

Tammy and I shared a Homemade Peach Cobbler with Ice Cream. This was some fantastic peach cobbler. The cobbler topped everything off nicely. You need to save room for this.

Final Thoughts:

Butts On The Creek BBQ was a very good stop for us. They are only open Thursday thru Sunday so plan accordingly. It took us 2 years to time it right. We were always there on the wrong days. We had a wonderful waitress and some great food. The restaurant was very nice and sitting Creekside was just a wonderful topper. Our whole experience here was great. I definitely would recommend you stopping in if you’re near Maggie Valley. Just remember to check their hours. I also recommend you pair this stop up with a visit to Mountain Mike’s too. Two wonderful businesses working to make Maggie Valley a great stop for visitors and residents alike.
