Shane’s Rib Shack, Raleigh, NC

Shane's Rib Shack

We made a run to Shane’s Rib Shack in Raleigh, NC after Christmas. We just decided to take a Jeep Ride and that’s where we ended up. I actually have a list of restaurants in the Raleigh – Durham area and this is one we have on it. I think we were lucky to find them open. So here’s what we found at Shane’s.

Where is Shane’s Rib Shack Located?

Shane’s Rib Shack is located in a shopping center. A very large shopping center. Their address is on Poyner Village Pkwy. in Raleigh, NC. If you don’t know where they are you should use your GPS. Mine took me right to it with no problems. Riding down I-95 we picked up Hwy. 64 West to I-440 and then Capitol Blvd. The only unfortunate part was we were not able to take a scenic route this time. My Jeep is not built to run 80 mph for hours at a time. We did however make the best of it.

The Restaurant and Staff:

Shane’s Rib Shack Back Entrance.

The parking for Shane’s Rib Shack is in the back of the restaurant. They do have a back entrance or you can just walk around to the front. The front side has a patio area with tables outside around a pond / pool setting. It really has a nice look and seems to be in a good location. They are a chain restaurant. Though from my impression it is not run like one.

We were greeted when we entered. The manager, Curtis, actually took our order and was quite helpful with our choices. We did tell him this was our first time there and asked what he recommended. He was surprised that we had traveled so far just to try their bbq. We didn’t tell him about the blog until we were finished with our meals. Everyone we met there was very friendly.

Their large dining room was well kept and very clean. It just felt like a local run place. Once we placed our orders at the counter we chose our seat. Our food was delivered to us at the table. They came by to be sure everything was ok. The last time they checked we discussed dessert.

Our Choices at Shane’s Rib Shack:

Shane’s Rib Shack Ribs and Chopped Pork.

Tammy and I both chose the 2 meat plate with Ribs and Chopped Pork. Tammy’s sides were Potato Salad and Green Beans. Both of these were good choices. The beans were really well seasoned. Their potato salad was wonderful. It had a mayo base but not overpowering. For someone who doesn’t care a lot about potato salad, Tammy did not take any prisoners this night. It was that good.

My sides were Baked Beans and Okra. I also added a cup of Brunswick Stew. My baked beans were pretty good. They had a tomato based sauce that wasn’t too sweet. They were seasoned well and also had chunks of meat mixed in. My okra was just plain fried okra. Since I also like fried okra as is, it was also a good choice. There was no seasoning added to spice it up or add to the flavor. I also

enjoyed the Brunswick Stew. Made with a tomato base the stew had plenty of meat and some veggies in it. They also add a hint of pepper that catches you after you get going with it. Nice.

About the ribs. Guess what, they had a good flavor. They seemed to me that they may have been smoked for a little while then lightly sauced and finished off on a grill. More like what you’d fix in your backyard but really good. The pork had more smoke flavor. I tried 3 of their sauces on it even though the pork didn’t need the sauces.

How About Their Sauces:

The Sauces.

Shane’s Rib Shack offers 4 sauces. Tammy used the mustard sauce and said it was good. I didn’t try that one. I did check out the other three. The original is a sweet tomato based sauce. The hot was not too hot. Seemed to have more of a black pepper heat and was also tomato based. When I first tried the spicy sauce I thought I’d been robbed. Not getting a lot of heat, I put more on my pork and tried it again. I got it the second time. This one was more like cayenne pepper and the tomato base.

And For Dessert:

We decided to split a peach cobbler for dessert. It was excellent. Just enough sweetness to the peaches and the crust/filling was wonderful. The only shortfall with the cobbler was they had no ice cream. Even without ice cream it’s worth saving some room for. I’d get it again.

Final Thoughts:

Shane’s Rib Shack Dining Room.

Shane’s Rib Shack turned into a very pleasant surprise for us. The restaurant was well decorated and clean, the people were very friendly and the food was good too. Most of the time the small private owned restaurants are the ones we prefer but this chain did not disappoint. I would recommend stopping here for lunch or dinner. All in all it was a very nice experience.
