The Wolf's Fixins BBQ

Today we’re going to pay a visit to The Wolf’s Fixins BBQ in Ruckersville, VA. I like to think of this area as Northern Central Virginia. For those not familiar with Ruckersville it is just north of Charlottesville, VA. Not really Northern VA thus my made up tag. Anyways we took a nice ride on some of our backroad highways again and just enjoyed another Jeep ride. Hit up an antique shop on the way there and checked

out a couple more after eating. This was a pretty good trip. So let’s see what we found out on this journey.

The Restaurant and Staff:

The Wolf's Fixins BBQ

Kid’s Chalk Board.

The Wolf’s Fixins BBQ is located in a small shopping center by Lowes and Walmart off of Seminole Trail in Ruckersville. They have a very nice location and easy to find. If you come off I-64 at Charlottesville they are not too far north off of Highway 29. We opted to come through Gordonsville and rode in on Highway 33.

When we entered the restaurant we were greeted and told we could sit where ever we wanted to. They brought us menus as soon as we sat so we could begin our study to figure out what we wanted. One wall in the dining room is a large chalk board. Kids can draw on the wall while you wait. Pretty cool idea. Tammy immediately noticed where someone had written “Jeep Go Beep” amongst the scribbling. She was thrilled. Our waitress was very friendly and any employee that walked by checked to see if everything was ok. The service was excellent. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. Everything was very nice and going well.

Tammy’s Choices at The Wolf’s Fixins BBQ:

Fried Pickles Appetizer.

We started out today with an appetizer of Fried Pickles. They were wonderful. The batter had a hint of pepper but not too hot. Awesome batter and dipping sauce. I loved them.

Tammy ordered the Brisket Platter with Smoked Baked Beans and Macaroni Salad. The beans were wonderful. They may have had a touch of brown sugar and/or molasses to give them a little sweet taste to go with the smoke flavor.

Tammy said the mac salad was good. You’ll have to take her word for that, I don’t eat mac salad. The sliced brisket had a really good flavor and a nice smoke ring. They may have cooked it a little too fast. It was just a little tough and the fat was not rendered enough. But as I said, it had a good flavor.

And My Choices:

I’ll have to say this was a tough menu for me to work off of. Not because the choices weren’t there but The Wolf’s Fixins BBQ does not have any combo platters for meal selections. However, they do have a Combo Platter on their appetizer list so I went with it. The platter came with

Combo Platter Appetizer. Sliced Brisket, Pulled Pork and Ribs.

Pulled Pork, Sliced Brisket and Ribs. I had to order my sides separately. I went with Fries and Smoked Baked Beans to go with my platter. I’ve already told you about the brisket and the smoked baked beans so I’ll pick it up from there.

The fries were pretty good. They came with a seasoning on them which was good though not fresh cut. I would still go with them again. The pulled pork was exceptional. It had a nice smoke ring and smoke flavor. I tried it with their sweet sauce and their hot sauce. Both sauces were good but I thought the pork was best without sauce. The ribs were excellent. They may need to cut back on the peppers. I loved them but Tammy couldn’t eat them. One pepper and she’s done.

Final Thoughts:

I thought The Wolf’s Fixins BBQ was a really good stop on the BBQ Trail. The restaurant was clean, comfortable and relaxing. The service was friendly and good. And the food was really good. They seem to be in a good location. It was easy for us to find. My only downside might would be that some of their food has a good bit of pepper seasoning. Maybe the people in the area like it that way but for a traveler that may not be the case. I enjoy a little kick at times. Tammy on the other hand will not eat anything that has heat/spice to it. Just my thoughts. They obviously prepare food the way their local customers like it so it works for them. I’d go back for more.
