The Lazy Pig BBQ, Triangle, VA

The Lazy Pig BBQ

Tammy and I took a ride to The Lazy Pig BBQ in Triangle, VA. Now I’ve never heard of Triangle. So if you’re in the same boat I am, The Lazy Pig BBQ is located right outside the gate to Quantico Marine Base. We took I-95 North to the Fredricksburg area and hopped onto Highway 1 North. That’s a much less stressful road for those of us that don’t like traffic. So we found them just a little north of Stafford, VA. Let’s take a look at what we found out.

The Restaurant and Staff:

The Lazy Pig BBQ has a small to medium sized dining room. The place was clean and comfortable. It almost seemed like we interrupted the lady working the counter and the man working the kitchen. Neither were especially friendly. Since we were the only ones there at the time it just seems that they would be happy to see a customer. We asked a couple of questions about the menu and the lady at the counter did not know, so we just kept trying until we came up with our meals.

Once we placed our order and paid for it we picked our seat. They brought the food out to us when it was ready. They were pretty quick about getting our meals out to us.

Our Choices at The Lazy Pig BBQ:

The Lazy Pig BBQ

Mega Pig Sampler with Mac & Cheese and Corn on the Cob.

Tammy and I both ordered a Mega Pig Sampler. This comes with Pulled Pork, Brisket, 2 Ribs and 2 Wings. I went with Baked Beans and Green Beans for sides, Tammy had Mac & Cheese and Corn on the Cob.

Starting with the sides, the baked beans were good. They were cooked in a nice bbq type sauce. The green beans were very good, nicely seasoned and tender. The corn on the cob was ok. There was nothing done to doctor it up so it wasn’t special. Just a piece of corn. Now the mac & cheese was really good. It had a different flavor to it, like a little vinegar bite. Very interesting and a nice surprise.

The pulled pork was pretty good. It had a light smoke flavor and a light vinegar sauce combination. Neither flavor overpowered. The brisket was good too. It was sliced thin and served with sauce on it. The brisket

wasn’t overpowered by a smoke flavor either. As for the ribs, they were really good. The ribs were served without sauce, just smoke and flavor. I really did enjoy them. And finally, the wings. The wings had a rub on them with a little kick and a wonderful smoke flavor. I actually thought the wings were the best of the meats. I enjoyed mine and Tammy’s.

Final Thoughts:

All in all The Lazy Pig BBQ was a good stop. They could easily make it better. A little friendliness to a couple of strangers when they walk in would go a long way. So basically we enjoyed the food, but the staff not so much. Another young lady came in while we were eating. When we were leaving I gave her my card. I explained that we had driven over 3 hours just to try them out. She was very friendly and seemed genuinely interested in how things went. I think if she had been working the counter our visit would have been different. But the whole idea behind making spontaneous unannounced visits is so that my readers know what they would find if they walked into a restaurant for the first time.
