Bones BBQ Joint, Gatlinburg, TN

Bones BBQ Joint

Tammy and I passed by Bones BBQ Joint on our way to take a Jeep Ride on the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. The trail was awesome by the way and I highly recommend checking it out when in Gatlinburg, TN. And it is paved so it’s not like you need 4WD to make it. But anyways the smoke from the restaurant smelled so good we decided to go back for dinner.

Well, many people ask if we ever eat at restaurants that aren’t good. Of course we do. As many as we go to it’s just a matter of time before you end up in one of them. Here we go.

The Restaurant and Staff at Bones BBQ Joint:

The dining room wasn’t dirty but it didn’t have that really clean feeling either. And in today’s environment, I want no doubts the place is clean and sanitized. But remember the smoke I mentioned. We still wanted to check the place out.

Our Choices at Bones BBQ Joint:

Tammy ordered a two Meat Dinner with Chicken and Sliced Brisket. For sides she went with Green Beans and Mac & Cheese. I didn’t try either of her sides. She barely ate any of them and didn’t offer any to me so I stayed away from them. She didn’t like them at all.

Then there was the brisket. Look at the brisket under the hushpuppies. There is no sign of a smoke ring and lots of fat. The color is kind of pale. And for the most part it tasted worse than it looks. The chicken wasn’t bad when she started though I didn’t try it either. Seems the further into it she got the chicken became too greasy for her to eat. I have no explanation for that but it’s just not a good sign for smoked chicken.

I ordered a Three Meat Dinner with Pulled Pork, Smoked Sausage and Ribs. My sides were Fried Okra and Potato Salad. I didn’t like the potato salad. Tammy tried it and said it had sour cream in it and that’s what I was tasting so that’s out. The okra was good to begin with but as I got closer to the bottom of the basket the more grease there was. I couldn’t finish them.

You can see the pork. There is no smoke ring and the meat does not look fresh. Well it didn’t taste fresh either and it didn’t have any smoke flavor. The sausage was ok, not fantastic. Towards the end it lost its appeal also. I think I ate as much as I did because I was hungry. The ribs were the highlight of my meal. I was only supposed to get two of them and the first 2 were pretty good. The third one was burnt to a crisp and not edible.

Final Thoughts on Bones BBQ Joint:

Based on this visit I can’t recommend anyone go here to eat. I know I will not go back. At first I wasn’t going to even write a review for this restaurant but so many people visit Gatlinburg it would not be right for me not to write it. There is good BBQ at other places in Gatlinburg and the surrounding area.

Thank you for those comments. I’m always a little leary when it comes to a bad review. But like you said, the people reading need to know the good and the bad. Thanks for your support.
