412Q Barbeque, Virginia Beach, VA

412Q Barbeque

I’d like to take you out to Pungo for a visit to 412Q Barbeque. Many may wonder where in the world is Pungo. Well if you ride on Princes Anne Road in Virginia Beach heading towards NC you’ll find them. Don’t blink. It is a very nice little community out in the country. Most don’t think of rural areas when they think about Virginia Beach but they do have plenty of farmland and it’s really pretty out there. So that said, 412Q Barbeque is located in the corner of Pungo Square Shopping Plaza. Not hard to find and a very nice ride.

In all my years living in this area, Tammy and I did something I’ve never done before. After eating we continued our Jeep ride towards NC to see where we’d end up. I didn’t even know that NC was located there. Once we arrived we ended up taking the Currituck-Knotts Island Ferry over to, you got it, Currituck, NC. That was fun but be prepared to wait for a ride. Check the NC Ferry schedule first. Now let’s move on to 412Q Barbeque.

The Restaurant and Staff:

412Q Barbeque is a carryout restaurant. They’re only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. But they also run a food trailer that sets up at various locations. You’d have to check out their Facebook page to keep up with that end. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon, I thought early, but not early enough. Kelly was working by herself this day. She told us that her husband Michael was off today helping a friend so their supplies were limited.

Kelly was super nice and offered us a sample of their brisket. Well we figured we could work with this.

Our Choices at 412Q Barbeque:

412Q Barbeque

Brisket Sandwich with Homemade Chips.

Today brisket was the only meat that was left. So Tammy and I both went for a Brisket Sandwich with one side. Tammy had homemade chips and I went for the Baked Beans for sides. The chips were wonderful and went great with the sandwich. But the baked beans were awesome. They were a mixture of beans with a great sauce that had meat cooked in with it.

As for the brisket, well it was as good as any we’ve eaten. And we have eaten a lot of brisket. The brisket at 412Q Barbeque had a great smoke ring and awesome flavor. The rub was fantastic. As well as tasting wonderful the brisket was tender and juicy. It just melted in our mouths. As we sat in the Jeep devouring this lunch we couldn’t help but wonder what the rest of the menu is like.

Kelly also told us that Michael makes his own sausage. The ribs and pulled pork are supposed to be great as well. So what we have here is a short review based solely on the brisket and a couple of sides at 412Q Barbeque. We will have to get back out to Pungo to pay another visit. And if I post this review prior to that visit I’ll just have to write a continuation. I’ll just have to add “To be continued” at the end of this.

Sauces:

We were also given a choice of sauces to put on our sandwiches. Today we both went with a traditional sweet tomato based sauce. It was really good on the sandwiches and complimented the brisket very well. If eating the brisket on a platter I’d probably go without sauce. But it was good on the sandwich. They also have a hot sauce. I didn’t try that one.

Final Thoughts:

I guess I should call this final thoughts for now. We will be back to try the rest of the menu. I’ll call next time before we go. At this time I’ll say that you need to check this place out. Like I said, they do take-out so plan accordingly. I would make the trip back out there for the brisket and baked beans again but I really want to try the pulled pork, ribs and some sausage. I know, I don’t ask for much. Well, I will call next time. Hopefully we will get to meet Michael next time also. I’m thinking that when we go back out there I may put a fold up table in the Jeep and a couple of chairs. We can just go for it in the parking lot.

Now For Your Thoughts:

I would love to hear from others who have been to 412Q Barbeque. Since we were limited to the brisket on our visit, tell us about the other meats. See if you can convince me to take the ride back out there sooner. Get some comments in so I can post them with this review. We’d really love to hear about the pork, ribs and sausage. Give us your take on the business in general. What do you like?

I look forward to hearing from you.

I encourage you to share this review on Facebook and other social media sites. Follow us on Facebook to see where else we go.
