VA BBQ Restaurants

Smoke BBQ Restaurant and Bar, Newport News, VA

August 11, 2015

Smoke BBQ in Newport News, VA was another internet search find. Some time ago when finding new bbq places became a hobby we searched the local area frequently to see what was around us. Much to our surprise there are many in our area.

Smoke is another restaurant that we like to go back to on occasion.

Yep. One time or another I’ve had the pulled pork, baby back ribs, brisket, twice smoked brisket, and the sausage. On those indecisive days I go for 2 or 3 meat combos. Yes I enjoy this type of pain. It is done so that I may help someone else, not just for selfish pleasure you know.

I’ve tried several different sides and the only one I didn’t really care for was the collards. I’m a little too picky for eating collards out I guess. The rest of the selections are on the try them out list. They have all been good.

Their dining room has been remodeled. I was told that they never closed down during the renovations. They had a reopening, even though they didn’t close, around March 2015. The new design is much better. The whole place is brighter and looks so much better. It seems to be more open and allows some room between tables. We really liked it. They also added an outdoor area which seemed to be pretty popular. I’m very pleased with the new look.

The only real problem I have with Smoke BBQ is they are located too close to County Grill, unless maybe if you live over there. Sometimes I have a hard time deciding which one to go to. The cure? Maybe one for lunch and the other for dinner or one on Friday night and the other on Saturday night…I don’t know.

Give Smoke BBQ a shot. Oh yeah, if you’re going for brisket don’t go too late. We have been when they sold out of it. And when it takes 8 hours or more to cook something, when it’s gone it’s gone. Don’t miss out.

We’ll get to County Grill later. They may not be the best but they have some good points. Just a thought. I do appreciate your opinion on it though. That’s what I’m here for. Thanks.
