BBQ Connection LLC, Bremo Bluff, VA

BBQ Connection LLC

I recently received an e-mail from BBQ Connection LLC letting me know that I should come out their way and give them a try. So, being the type that enjoys a friendly challenge I thought it sounded like a good idea. After all, I do believe that a business should believe strongly in the product that they sell. With that in mind, I figured that we would be in for a treat. We did have to wait a few weeks before making the ride and the anticipation just grew stronger. I was really looking forward to this one. One Saturday we were finally on our way.

Where is BBQ Connection LLC Located?

BBQ Connection LLC is located on Highway 15 in Bremo Bluff, VA. Yes I know that probably doesn’t give a lot of folks much to go on. For planning purposes they are about 25 – 30 miles North of Farmville, VA.

If you come in from the North off of Interstate 64 they are located about 21 miles South of Zion Crossroads on Highway 15.

Which Route Did We Choose?

I often mention that we love to go on a Jeep Ride, well we didn’t take either of these routes going there. And I might add that it was an interesting ride. Keep in mind that we were leaving from Suffolk, VA so all we needed to do was shoot straight out 460 West to Farmville. We decided to go to Williamsburg, VA for a little Christmas shopping first. From there the best bet would be jump on I-64 West and hit the road. That’s just not a Jeep Ride. We went straight out Route 60 West, through Richmond, through Midlothian and so on. I don’t recommend going through Richmond this way, it gets a little hairy for those of us that prefer the country.

However, once we were west of Midlothian Rt. 60 is a nice ride. Around Cumberland I stopped for gas and decided to check my GPS just to see how much further we had to go. We’d been riding for quite a while. My plan was to take 60 to Rt. 15 and head north. My GPS disagreed with me. I argued with her for a while, making several U-turns to get her to see things my way. She was not about to budge. She wanted me on Rt. 622, Trents Mill Rd. The lady in the box was relentless and I finally gave in. Rt. 622 here we go. Now we are on a Jeep Ride. A couple of times I thought I may have to use 4WD or go through a cow pasture. All joking aside, she was right, this was a shorter route and it was a beautiful ride once we made it to Rt. 15. That really was a fun ride.

Return trip? We took Rt. 15 to Farmville and headed east on Hwy. 460 towards home.

The Restaurant and Staff:

Now for the business side of this.

BBQ Connection LLC is actually a pretty small place. They do mostly take out. They also cater. Inside, they do have 1 small table and a few bar stools at a counter for those of us that have to eat in. There is also a picnic table out towards the back with a cover you can eat at. The restaurant shares a building with a Family Dollar Store. BBQ Connection LLC is located around the north side of the building, not on the street front. They have signs by the road but you can miss them if you’re not paying attention. Let your lady in the box guide you. Mine knew where they were.

We were greeted as soon as we walked in. We asked a few questions about ordering and about their food. It was a given that we were new. Aurora (name according to my receipt), the young lady working the counter took our orders and Heather, her mother fixed us up. Both were a pleasure to talk with. Funny thing how small our world is, Heather lived in the same part of Portsmouth, VA that I went to elementary school at. I just thought that was pretty cool. Even better was their love of Jeeps. Oh yes we’re in the right place now. Tammy and I just really enjoyed our conversations with both of them. We also learned that the restaurant had only been open for 7 months. This made the visit even more special. Unfortunately we didn’t get to meet the owner this trip. Oh well, he was well represented.

Our Choices at BBQ Connection LLC:

BBQ Connection LLC Large BBQ Basket

Large BBQ Basket with BBQ Beans and Potato Salad.

Here we go. I chose the Large Pork Basket with BBQ Beans and Potato Salad. The baskets are actually sandwich plates. Since I didn’t really want a sandwich I just ate the bbq and not the bun. The pork was excellent. BBQ Connection LLC uses their own dry rub and then smokes the meat. The rub and smoke combine beautifully. I would like to see them do a BBQ Plate for those of us that try not to eat too much bread. Maybe sometime down the road. The bbq beans were good. Looking at them they looked kind of plain but don’t be fooled. They also have a good flavor. The potato salad was even better. Nice big chunks of potatoes, mustard, and a dill flavor. I enjoyed both of sides.

Regular Brisket Basket with Mac & Cheese and Slaw.

Regular Brisket Basket with Mac & Cheese and Slaw.

Tammy ordered a Regular Brisket Basket with Mac & Cheese and Coleslaw. The brisket was exceptional. BBQ Connection LLC joins the ranks of VA restaurants that can cook brisket like it should be. Congrats! The mac & cheese was wonderful, very cheesy. And the slaw was also good. Heather told us that they shred the cabbage at the restaurant when they make it. It also had corn in it which was something we had never seen before. They told us it helps to cut down on added sugar. All the sides were homemade and wonderful.

Dessert anyone?

Well this time we didn’t get dessert even though they are homemade. They told us about their chocolate chess pie, which they didn’t have and now Tammy can’t wait to go back. The girls told us to call a day or two before we come and they could be sure to have what we wanted. So there is no doubt that we will return and that they will know when we’re going to visit. No problem there, we don’t have to sneak after the first visit.

Final Thoughts:

BBQ Connection LLC Trophy Collection

BBQ Connection LLC Trophies.

Well you may be able to tell that I really liked BBQ Connection LLC. While waiting for our order I looked at some of the BBQ Awards they have won. Even though the restaurant is new, they are not new to smoking their meats. They have won competitions in whole hog, bbq, and brisket. After we ate Tammy was looking at a 5th place trophy for a brisket competition

and told them that he was robbed. I just thought that if this was 5th place imagine what 1st place tasted like. The girls told us that these were just a few of the trophies. The food at BBQ Connection LLC represents their competition cooking well.

Yes I liked them a lot. Yes you need to go there. Get out of the city and take a relaxing ride to Bremo Bluff, VA for some awesome BBQ and Brisket. There will also be some pretty nice people there to great you. Check their website for hours before you go. They are not open Monday – Wednesday at this time.
