Tom’s Blue Moon BBQ, Lebanon, TN

Tom's Blue Moon BBQ

As we continued our journey east through Tennessee we made a stop at Tom’s Blue Moon BBQ for lunch. I’m not real sure how we worked this one out. You see, Lebanon is only about 2 – 1/2 hours away from Jackson, TN. Now I’m sure we ate breakfast at the motel, but hey, we made it for lunch anyway. Like I had said in an earlier post I had allowed 4 to 5 days for the 3 day trip home from Oklahoma City. So I guess we were in no hurry.

Where is Tom’s Blue Moon BBQ?

Tom’s Blue Moon BBQ is located on Park Ave. in Lebanon, TN. From I-40 we took Exit 239 onto Highway 70 North / Sparta Pike. They are very close to the interstate and just off of Sparta Pike at a fork in the road. You bear left onto Park Ave. and they are right there. Piece of cake coming off of I-40.

The Restaurant and Staff:

Tom’s Blue Moon BBQ is a nice restaurant with a good size dining room. Everything was clean and well taken care of. Both ladies working there were very nice. They helped with our orders and answered all our questions. These ladies were friendly and made us feel welcome the whole time we were there. Now as you check out what we ate here, keep in mind this is a lunch order. I can only imagine that these ladies must be thinking that we had lost our minds. But I only get one shot at a first impression. So here we go.

Our Choices at Tom’s Blue Moon BBQ:

Tom's Blue Moon BBQ

Two Meat Plate with Sliced Brisket and Smoked Bologna.

Tammy ordered a 2 Meat Plate with Sliced Brisket and Smoked Bologna. Her sides were Fried Green Tomatoes and House Made Potato Chips. The fried green tomatoes were very good. They had a nice coating and were fried just right. Great choice going with the tomatoes. And what can I say, the chips were homemade, fried up and seasoned. These babies were very good and an excellent choice for lunch.

The brisket was wonderful. They sliced it to order. It was very tender and had a great flavor. The bologna was also sliced to order but after slicing they put it on the grill to heat and char it. It also had a very good taste. The plate also comes with your choice of Flat Fried Cornbread or Texas Toast. No hard choice here. The cornbread was perfect and reminded me of Grandmother’s.

Tom's Blue Moon BBQ

Three Meat Plate with Sliced Brisket, Pulled Pork and Spare Ribs.

Then there’s my choices. I went with a 3 Meat Plate with Sliced Brisket, Pulled Pork, and Spare Ribs. My sides were Fresh Cut Fries and BBQ Beans. And of course I chose the Fried Cornbread also. I loved my bbq beans. They had a great sauce and pieces of pork cooked in. They were so very good. The fresh cut fries were fantastic also and they’re cooked to order so you get them nice hot and fresh.

The pulled pork was really good. It had a nice flavor without the sauce. But it also went well with the sauces. My ribs were even better. I liked all three meats but the ribs were my favorite today. They had nice charred meat on the outside and tender fall off the bone inside. They were simply awesome.

Sauces:

I tried both the mild and hot sauces at Tom’s Blue Moon BBQ. Both were sweet tomato based. I enjoyed both sauces. The hot was not too hot but it let you know that it was there. The pulled pork went well with either sauce, though I preferred it with no sauce.

Desserts:

We both had a piece of caramel, peanut butter & chocolate pie with a graham cracker crust. The pie came frozen and it was wonderful. Save some room for this treat.

Final Thoughts:

Tom’s Blue Moon BBQ turns out to be a very good stop for us. They were well worth getting off the interstate to grab some lunch. Dinner would be a good stop too. I think we hit this place up at an oddball time so they were not busy at all. There were a few locals in there. I would think that they would be pretty busy during regular lunch and dinner hours. If not they should be. We met some really nice people that enjoy their jobs and served us some really good food. No complaints here. We didn’t get to meet the owner but the employees we met were wonderful and represented him/her well.

Now For Your Thoughts:

Enough of my thoughts. What do you think? Being as close to the interstate as they are there has to be a lot of traffic just passing through. Tell us about your visit. How did it compare to ours? Get your comments to me and I’ll get them posted as soon as possible.

What do you regulars think?

We live in Lebanon, TN, and frequent Tom’s Blue Moon BBQ regularly. In fact, we like their food and service so well that we had them cater both children’s weddings and I use them for my annual Client Appreciation Party that I host at my farm, LIKAZOO, for all of my Real Estate Clients. I highly recommend everyone give them a try.
