Three Lil Pigs Barbeque

We made a stop at Three Lil Pigs Barbeque in Daleville, VA while on a trip to West Virginia recently. I had looked at a few places on line and thought we’d just pick one when the time was right for supper. Well we hit this one right on time.

Where is Three Lil Pigs Barbeque Located?

Three Lil Pigs Barbeque is located in Daleville, VA. They’re right where Routes 11, 220 and I-81 all intersect. My ole faithful GPS led us right to them just west of the interstate with easy access back on it if traveling.

Outside seating with a view.

Three Lil Pigs Barbeque looks to be in a fairly new building that’s part of a shopping center. The whole place looks pretty nice. Inside the restaurant was very clean and nicely decorated. There were an average amount of tables inside but there were many outside ones as well. We were greeted and seated as soon as we came in. I’ll have to admit that we were a little concerned when we were first seated. We noticed the cloth napkins and real silverware on the table. Later when our food was served it came on real plates. Do not let that scare you. This place is down to earth and they will bring you extra (paper) napkins if you need them. As much as I’ve come to love our trays from typical bbq joints, I’d say this was a pleasant surprise. The staff was very nice. Our waitress, Rachel, was wonderful. She was very helpful with the menu and just really friendly. She checked on us many times just to be sure we were ok. So how was the food? Glad you asked.

Our Choices at Three Lil Pigs Barbeque:

Tomato Chopped Pork Platter with Seasoned Buffalo Fries and Slaw.

I’ll start with Tammy’s order. She chose the Tomato BBQ Platter. For her sides she chose Seasoned Buffalo Fries and Slaw. In addition to the sides the platter also came with 3 hushpuppies. The Buffalo Fries are

sliced potatoes fried with chopped onion and served with Ranch Dressing for dipping. They were awesome. The slaw didn’t look like it would be that wonderful but the looks were deceiving. Turns out the slaw was very good. It had a sweet mayo base. The pups were fantastic. The tomato bbq was really good. It had a mild tomato sauce mixed in as well as some good smoke flavor. It also had a very nice smoke ring.

Brunswick Stew at Three Lil Pigs Barbeque.

For me, I started out with a cup of Brunswick Stew before my order. It had an awesome flavor with pork, chicken, veggies, and potatoes which were cut into small cubes. It all mixed in wonderfully.

BBQ Combo Platter, Vinegar Pork and Dry Rub Ribs. Buffalo Fries and Baked Beans for sides.

Finally for my dinner I ordered a BBQ Combo Platter with 2 meats, Vinegar BBQ and St. Louis Ribs dry rubbed. I also chose the Seasoned Buffalo Fries and got Baked Beans instead of slaw. I opted out on the Ranch for my potatoes and they were wonderful. The beans had a very good sauce with green peppers cooked in. The Vinegar BBQ is a very good NC BBQ. I preferred it over the tomato bbq. The smoke and the light sauce blended nicely to make it all come together. My Dry Rub Ribs were wonderful. Loved their rub and the rib flavors together. The ribs can also be ordered with tomato sauce or jerk sauce on them. I couldn’t eat it all which was sad since we were traveling without a cooler.

Sauces:

Sauces at Three Lil Pigs Barbeque.

I tried out 4 sauces at Three Lil Pigs Barbeque. First was their traditional vinegar sauce. Then I tried the zesty tomato sauce. Thirdly I tried their hot sauce. I’d have to admit it was a little heated but not bad. The vinegar and tomato sauces were pretty good also. In addition to these three more traditional sauces, Three Lil Pigs Barbeque also offers a Jerk Sauce. I’ll have to admit that I didn’t care for it very much. I think you may need an acquired taste for the Jerk Sauce.

Desserts:

We had to pass on desserts. That was a shame too since the special this night was Blue Berry Cobbler. There was just nowhere to fit it. Hopefully next time.

Final Thoughts:

So my final thoughts go something like this. Tammy and I both loved our stop at Three Lil Pigs Barbeque. The food was awesome, Rachel was a wonderful waitress, and the whole staff was very nice. We’ll definitely go here again when we travel that direction. I’d recommend anyone traveling I-81 or Highways 220 or 11 to check this one out. I think you’ll be glad you did.
