Well we made a little road trip to Chester, VA today just for lunch at Sibley’s BBQ. I’ll have to admit that overall I’m disappointed with them. Here’s my rundown on them.

I had their pulled pork with fried okra and baked beans. The pork tasted like it was old or something. It had a really nice smoke ring that had my hopes up but the smoke flavor was not there. I could not taste any spices either. I did add their vinegar based sauce to it which improved the meal to be able to eat. The baked beans tasted like warmed pork and beans. Nothing impressive there either. On the positive side…I enjoyed the fried okra. It may have been frozen and store bought but it was good. Dido with the hushpuppies. My wife tried my pork also and turned her nose up at it.

She on the other hand ordered the brisket with green beans with tomatoes and corn fritters. Her brisket was very good. Yep, she let me have some of it. I think she felt sorry for me. The down side of her lunch was the green beans with tomatoes. They tasted like the can that they came out of. They should add some onions to the mix to take care of that. But her corn fritters were good and she also had hushpuppies.

The restaurant itself is pretty cute and decorated nicely. The people were friendly and the service was ok. Our waitress didn’t check on us as much as she should have and our drinks ran out. One thing that any waitress should know is that their tip greatly depends on my glass not going empty. That will ruin it for them.

I do feel that they are a little over priced for what you get. I wouldn’t mind paying the price for a bunch of homemade goodies but not for side dishes delivered by a truck from some food manufacturer.

I will have to say though that I would go back if I’m riding out on Route 10 near there. I would get the brisket instead of the pulled pork. I might even try the ribs on another visit.

Sorry Sibley’s but I’d have to rate you as just average based on this visit. Maybe we’ll try again someday.

I have read reviews on line that really rated Sibley’s high. I also read some low ratings. Maybe this was just one of those days. Sorry guys.
