Reggi’s Hickory Pit BBQ, Jackson, TN

Reggi's BBQ

Today we’re going to make a stop in Jackson, TN at Reggi’s BBQ. You would think that as much as I love bbq and as famous as Memphis is for their style of bbq I would have been dying to stop there. Well we passed through Memphis during rush hour. I got in one lane on I-40 and refused to switch lanes until I was well out of there. Maybe some other day. So with Memphis behind us Tammy began searching for somewhere for us to eat. I also wanted to find a good place to spend the night. She found Reggi’s BBQ and started reading some of their reviews. Well of course I had to find out for myself if they were all that, right? After all that’s why you’re here.

Where is Reggi’s BBQ?

Reggi’s BBQ is located just off of I-40 in Jackson, TN. They are located at the end of a strip of stores in a nice corner spot. Everything, including the buildings, looked fairly new. Take Exit 85 from I-40 onto Dr. F E Wright Drive and then turn left on Bancorp South Parkway. Finally make a right on Parkstone Place and you have made it.

Everything there seems pretty new. The restaurant is beautiful. They have booths down the sides against the walls and tables down the middle. The walls are covered with pictures giving it a nice homey touch and feel. We were greeted by Brittney as soon as we walked through the door. Of course she was behind the counter at the other end of the room. Well we did feel welcome. So Brittney also waited on us when we got to the counter. She had such a fantastic smile and personality, Tammy and I both thought she was wonderful. She helped us with all our questions and to finally place our order. Once we ordered we chose a table and they brought the food to us. So far we were loving this place.

Our Choices at Reggi’s BBQ:

Tonight Tammy ordered a Loaded Baked Potato. It was wonderful. The potato came loaded with Bacon, Chives, Sour Cream, Cheese and Pork. I tried it out and loved it too.

Pit Master Sampler with Pulled Pork, Sliced Brisket and Ribs.

I chose the Pit Master Sampler which consisted of Pulled Pork, Smoked Brisket (sliced) and 3 Ribs. My sides were Baked Beans and Fried Okra. The baked beans were very good. They had an excellent sauce. The fried okra was even better. Reggi’s BBQ did a great job frying them up and then they added seasoning to them. I loved them!

The pulled pork was more like chopped but not real fine. It had an awesome flavor and bark mixed in also. The brisket was smoked very well. It had a nice smoke ring and good smoke flavor along with the flavor of the brisket. Just fantastic. And the ribs? They were outstanding. Great smoke flavor and fall off the bone tender. These ribs rocked!

Sauces:

I also tried the pork with their 2 sauces, Original and Hot. Both were very good. The hot sauce seemed to leave some heat on the back of the tongue after it went down. What a nice surprise.

Desserts:

Pecan Pie. Reggi’s BBQ.

Well I had to pass on dessert at Reggi’s BBQ. There was no room at the Inn if you know what I mean. However, don’t feel slighted. Tammy had a piece of Pecan Pie. I did try a small taste and it was very good. There was just no way I was going to eat a piece of pie after what I had already eaten.

Final Thoughts:

I love Reggi’s BBQ and I love Reggi who is actually Eugene. After dinner I was able to talk to him briefly. He is such a great and humble man. I truly admire him. Not to mention he’s killer with a smoker. I know I say this frequently but I want it said here too. Finding bbq joints with food like this and these type of people are what make this so much fun. It’s just such a delight to meet the people that have the passion for the art. Out of the 18 restaurants we visited on this trip, Reggi’s BBQ has to rate in the top 2 – 3. And with that said, let me say that we visited some pretty awesome places along the way. We were fortunate not to have stopped at any bad places on this trip. And there’s still a few more to come after this. Tammy says this bbq blog has brought me out of a shell. I’m still timid about talking to strangers but when I meet someone like Eugene it’s just easy to start talking. I felt blessed to have met him. You can bet the next time we head out on I-40 thru Tennessee, I will stop in Jackson and visit Reggi’s BBQ.
