Pierce’s Pitt Bar-B-Que, Williamsburg, VA

October 29, 2015

Ok, now for a review on Pierce’s Pitt Bar-B-Que in Williamsburg, VA. This one should be fun.

First let me say for anyone that is not from the Eastern Virginia area and may not know about Pierce’s, it is definitely a local’s favorite. Some people will fight you for bad mouthing Pierce’s. And before anyone gets their dander up, yes I like them too.

Now with that said, let me tell you how I really feel. I do enjoy going to Pierce’s BBQ from time to time when we visit Williamsburg. I think that I prefer going there for lunch. I don’t however think that Pierce’s BBQ is the all-time best. Very good but just not the best.

I do know that the true Pierce’s fans will argue me into the ground on this one. I’m truly happy for their enthusiasm for their favorite. I also respect their opinion. As already stated, Pierce’s fans are truly loyal to the end.

I definitely would recommend that you go there if you’re visiting Williamsburg or anywhere close to them. They are very good and well worth the visit.

Pierce’s Combo Dinner

On our last visit there I did something I had never done before. I ordered a combo meal instead of my usual JC Special. The Special is a sandwich meal with fries and a cookie.

So my combo this time came with pulled pork, pulled chicken, and two shanks. This just seemed very interesting to me so I gave it a shot with fries and slaw. Both the chicken and the pork come already cooked in sauce. They were both good but I’d still rather have the pork without sauce. It was really good on the chicken. Now the shanks came smoked with no sauce on them. They gave me a little cup of sauce for dipping. It turned out to have a little kick to it and was really good with the shanks.

OK. I know not everyone knows what a shank is. I had a couple people ask me what they were just from talking about my meal. So, the shank comes from the lower portion of a ham. Basically it was a nice little chunk of meat on the bone, very moist with a little bark on the outside. I was pleasantly surprised.

So my meal turned out really good. Williamsburg folks, do I get a cheer?

JC Special with Onion Rings

Tammy went with the ever faithful JC Special mentioned above except she got onion rings instead of fries. The onion rings are killer here. They use large, thick slices of onions, battered and fried to perfection.

Pierce’s also has ribs and brisket. I’ve never tried either of them there. Maybe someday.

With this in mind…you should give them a try. Even if you don’t like sauce on your bbq, theirs is worth a shot. Go in open minded and I think you’ll be pleased.

Can’t wait to hear the feedback on this one. I’m counting on my niece to spread this around over her way to see how the folks there feel about it. I also want to thank her for my feature picture of Pierce’s outside view.

Enjoy.
