Fresh Reviews Coming Soon

Tammy and I have just returned from the mountains of VA where we managed to take in six new bbq joints. Some were in VA and some in NC. Let me tell you there is some great bbq in those mountains.

Special Thanks to Grassy Creek Cabooses

Grassy Creek Caboose

Our Caboose at Grassy Creek Cabooses in Orchard Gap, VA.

We want to give a special thanks to the Grassy Creek Cabooses in Orchard Gap, VA just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. What a fun idea and a great place to stay. If you have kids you may need to check out the Depot for a little more room. Any couple, young or old, would be well worth checking out. Nice and clean. Ours had a kitchenette with a stove, a queen sized bed, a Jacuzzi and a shower. All that and still some room to move around. It also has satellite tv. We also managed one pretty awesome sunset. The other nights we didn’t make it home before dark.

What We Did

Tammy's Black Bear

Black Bear on the Parkway.

The caboose was a great spot for us to stay. We ventured into Hillsville, VA to check out the Memorial Day Flea Market. We also visited near by Mount Airy, NC, Pilot Mountain, NC, Wytheville, VA, and Marion, VA for some fun antiquing and bbq. We also included a ride down the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway as far down as Spruce Pine, NC. What a wonderful place to visit and just relax. Along the way we managed to spot several deer, some turkeys, and a nice black bear. Nice because he stayed where he was and we stayed where we were, in the Jeep. My over excited co-pilot, Tammy, did manage a couple pictures of the bear. The others were just passing by and didn’t wait for photo ops.

Final Thoughts

What a great Memorial Day (extended) Weekend. We had a great place to stay, wonderful hosts, and some really fun day trips from there. I look forward to a return visit one of these days.

Restaurant reviews will be coming soon. Keep an eye out for the new ones.

Enjoy the ride, good eating and thanks for stopping by.
