VA BBQ Restaurants

Beach Bully Bar-B-Que, Virginia Beach, VA

November 30, 2015

We recently made another visit to Beach Bully Bar-B-Que in Virginia Beach, VA. This is another restaurant we haven’t been to in a while so I wanted to pay them a fresh visit before writing a review of them.

I’ve lived my whole life in the area now known as Hampton Roads. From the time we were old enough to drive, my friends and I would take off to Va. Beach. I never knew there were so many bbq restaurants in Va. Beach, VA.

Well not to date myself too much but there probably weren’t as many back then.

The Beach Bully BBQ Restaurant is another one of the Beach’s places to eat. They are located only 4 blocks off the oceanfront so it’s convenient for anyone staying at the beach. Located on 19th Street, they are in a great location whether you’re at the beach or attending an event at the Convention Center.

The restaurant is not large but they have plenty tables. They also offer outside seating. It’s a comfortable atmosphere. You order at the counter, grab your drinks and any sauces you may want to try, then sit wherever you choose. They will bring your food to the table. The employees were very friendly and helpful with the menu.

Beach Bully Bar-B-Que Brisket & Pork Combo

Beach Bully Bar-B-Que Brisket & Pork Combo

On this visit to Beach Bully Bar-B-Que I had their Brisket and Pork Combo with fresh cut fries and meaty beans. I also ordered a side of Brunswick Stew. The Brisket was good. I will say that I’ve had better but it was good. They slice the brisket really thin like on a meat slicer thin. It is then warmed up on a flat top griddle. It did have a slight smoke ring but could use more smoke flavor. The Pork was better. It had a little more smoke and a little bit of a vinegar flavor. They blended very well. I tried it with different sauces but liked it best without sauce.

The fries were killer and the beans were very good too. The beans had meat and a mahogany sauce base. Really good. I liked the Brunswick Stew also. It had a lot of meat in it and a tomato base. Seems strange for me to say but it could use a few more veggies. Wow, that was tough to say, but the right veggies make it great.

Beach Bully Bar-B-Que Brisket Sandwich

Tammy ordered a Brisket sandwich with meaty beans and mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was good. It wasn’t homemade but still good. It was

a nice side for the meat. The sandwich looked good. It was thin sliced as described above and piled on a large bun. She seemed quite pleased with her choice. I still think that the Pork was the best choice.

All in all Beach Bully Bar-B-Que is a very nice place to eat. The dining room has always been clean when we’ve been there. And the employees are always very helpful and friendly. We do like it there, it’s just a long ways from home.

They do have a good “local” customer base. The last time we were there we ate with several firefighters and rescue workers. That’s usually a pretty good sign too.

As already stated they are close to the oceanfront and to the Convention Center. So if you’re at either of those places and want some good bbq you should give them a try.

Would love to hear from some others that have been to Beach Bully. Let us know what you think about them.
